Replacing an LED bulb: base, lumens and colour temperature

LEDs save energy, but the wrong base or a cold colour shows immediately. Use this short checklist before you buy.

1. Check the base

E27 (large), E14 (small), GU10 (spot) or G9. Bring the old bulb if unsure.

2. Lumens, not “watts”

For living rooms aim around ±800 lumens; mood lighting lower, work areas higher.

3. Colour temperature

  • 2700–3000 K — warm white (living, bedroom)
  • 4000 K — neutral (kitchen, bathroom, workshop)
Safety: switch off at the wall and let the bulb cool. Unsure about wiring? Call a professional.
